Sean Gonsalves

ILSR: Assoc. Dir. for Communications, Community Broadband Networks Initiative

Sean Gonsalves is the Associate Director for Communications at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance (ILSR) Community Broadband Networks (CBN) Initiative. Sean joined ILSR in 2020 as a senior reporter and editor for CBN’s website communitynets.org, the nation’s leading storehouse of information and resources on publicly-owned, locally controlled Internet networks across country. As a longtime former reporter, nationally syndicated columnist, news editor and communication consultant, Sean is now exclusively focused on all things broadband – tracking the birth and development of local broadband networks; federal and state telecommunication policies related to the expansion of high-speed Internet access; and the nexus between federal broadband funding programs and state broadband offices. Sean has a particular interest in the intersection of broadband infrastructure and digital equity and is currently a board member of OpenCape, a nonprofit middle mile fiber network in southeastern Massachusetts where he currently resides.
