Dr. Dora van Veen

Nokia Bell Labs: Distinguished Member of Technical Staff - Bell Labs Core Research

Dora van Veen is a distinguished member of technical staff and is part of the leadership team for the Fixed Networks Research Group at Nokia Bell Labs. She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente, Enschede, The Netherlands.

She has been the Principal Investigator in a team that has developed early system demonstrations and has done research on several generations of Passive Optical Networks. Dr. van Veen’s research has focused on many aspects of the physical layer in optical access, resulting in numerous conference and journal papers as well as patents. Doutje also contributes to standardization of PON by ITU-T and IEEE.

Dora is part of the IEEE/Optica Journal of Lightwave Technology editorial board and of the editorial board for IEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking. She has served as a member of the Technical Program Committee for the Optical Fiber Communication conference (OFC) and for the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC).

Her current research interests include high line-rate PONs, developing methods for reducing cost and energy consumption in optical access systems, and next generation optical access in general.
