Chief Operating Officer, Lumiere Fiber

Brock Smethills serves as chief operating officer of Lumiere Fiber, LLC. With a strong aerospace background, Smethills brings a technological approach to residential and commercial development.

Prior to joining Sterling Ranch, Smethills interned for United Launch Alliance and Lockheed Martin. He worked on the Sample Return Capsule for the NASA OSIRIS-REx mission, which sent a satellite to asteroid 1999RQ-36, retrieved a sample and then returned it back to Earth for study. Smethills has drawn on this experience to develop technological and educational partnerships at Sterling Ranch.

Smethills graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and specialty in aerospace. During his time at Vanderbilt, he was president of the American Society for Mechanical Engineers and the team captain for Vanderbilt’s NASA University Student Launch Initiative (USLI) team. The Vanderbilt USLI team won the overall competition against 42 other universities by designing, building, and flying a 10-foot rocket and two handmade bio-hybrid fueled ramjet engines. Smethills has been active in the Sterling Ranch Project for four years and has been instrumental in the development of smart home technologies with Siemens, Building Technologies and the telecommunications platform with IBM and CenturyLink.
